Acupuncture

At InSync, we offer two types of acupuncture – traditional and dry needling.

TRADITIONAL ACUPUNCTURE

Widely used in China for many decades, acupuncture involves having very fine needles inserted into various parts of the body. The treatment stimulates nerves in the skin, producing more of your body’s natural painkillers, endorphins and serotonin.

These painkillers help to change the way your body feels pain.

DRY NEEDLING

Dry needling is the Western approach to acupuncture and aims to stimulate the nervous system around the affected area to promote healing. Needles are inserted around the site of your pain or injury, rather than in specific patterns around the whole body.
Acupuncture is currently recommended by NICE (National Institute of Health and Care Excellence) as a treatment option for migraines and chronic tension type headaches. We’ve also found that it’s an ideal treatment for chronic neck/back pain, joint pain and post-operative pain.

DOES IT HURT?

This is a question we’re often asked about acupuncture.

There shouldn’t be any significant pain when the needles are inserted. Most of our clients feel calm and relaxed after an acupuncture session and some even fall asleep during treatment.

Post treatment soreness can last for 24-48 hours.

All our physiotherapy clinicians are trained in both Acupuncture and Dry Needling, making this treatment available to all our patients in Hexham and the Tyne Valley. We are licenced to perform out of the clinic within Northumberland, Newcastle and Durham during our home visits.
